Markham, Abilene, Texas

This very popular 1953 Indian Blackhawk Chief is a completed mid-year 1986 restoration by Bob Stark of Starklite in California. He is the best in the business and had done many of Steve McQueen's Indians. It is in top condition. It was displayed together with the owner's other very last 1955 post plant closing original Bonneville Chief at the New York promotion of the Anthony Hopkins film, "The World's Fastest Indian", as well as on the History Channel's, "Boys and Their Toys", NYC special TV production.
I initially purchased the bike on September 25, 1981 from its owner in Burlington, Iowa. Later on I engaged Starklite to undertake the total restoration that was completed mid-year 1986.
It's a stock 80ci (1,333 cc) flat head side value engine, a proven rider and one hellulva of a bike, powerful, great torque and handles like it is on a rail. Indian closed their factory doors in 1953, so this is their last year of the factory production.
Copy of my New Jersey Certificate of Ownership is enclosed. At the time of the May 8, 1985 title registration the mileage was recorded at 31,523. Presently as of April 8, 2016 the mileage is 39,116 for an additional 7,593 miles since the 1986 restoration or an average 253 miles per annually. As you know at most of that time I owned and rode some pristine dozen classic motorcycles as well as almost as many classic sports cars. Hence the annual mileage per vehicle has been in most cases relatively modest. The 1953 Chief was last run in the Fall of 2015 and will be on the road again with the arrival of this Spring ridding season.
Noteworthy on this 1953 Chief, are some upgrades all of which add value and were done at the time of the restoration. They are: 1) Dual Indian Spot Lights2) Original option fringe "Buddy Seat" (very expensive & great with the ladies!)3) Starklite conversion to 12 volt (an absolute when night riding)4) Polished cases5) The original British AMAL carburetor used by the Indian company on their 1953 model was flawed to where it could be dangerous and on occasion could cause fires. On the restoration, I replaced it with the earlier Indian reliable Linker Carburetor, which is very dependable.
